CORSICA – The legacy David Leadbetter began in Corsica nearly 60 years ago will continue to serve the community under new ownership.

Leadbetter passed away on December 10, 2021, but his family wants to “reassure everyone that business is still up and running”.

His wife Sandy said, “Dave started as a one-man show” and opened Leadbetter Auto Body in 1964. When he opened his new business, “he only started out doing body repairs.”

Six years later he took Dave Leadbetter Towing into his business and in the early 1980s “joined the big towing company. He spent many days and nights on the freeway and built a fleet of heavy haul trucks and equipment over the years, ”said his grandson Jacob Leadbetter.

As the business continued to grow, so did its employees. “At one time he had eleven people servicing the area from Emlenton to Clearfield,” said Leadbetter, “and developed a good working relationship with law enforcement in the area.”

Granddaughter Kelsey Makin said, “The body shop has also served several insurance companies and individuals.

“He was definitely a man of many projects. His challenge was to develop a new vehicle or device and collect antique cars, ”she said.

Not only has Dave Leadbetter served his community as a businessman, he “really enjoyed helping his community in many ways. He was a lifelong member of Corsica

Volunteer fire brigade and worked as mayor for many years. He especially enjoyed bringing the community children to the July 4th parade, ”Makin said.

In September, Leadbetter began taking the necessary steps to change ownership of the company and offered it to Chase Leadbetter, who had worked for him since high school.

“Chase came to work” for Dave “13 years ago when he was in high school,” Makin said. After graduating from high school, “he went to college and came back. He became Dave’s right-hand man and it was his dream that Chase would take over the business. “

Under the new owner, “everything stays the same in the body shop and he keeps medium and light towing services,” she said.

Although the ownership of the company has changed, it will remain “business as usual” at Leadbetter’s Auto Body in Corsica.
